Heard the splash and when I looked there was a Cormorant coming out of the water with a twig in his beak! Of course I had to blog about it and you can see more pics here of this weeks Trek.

Cool Facts
The Neotropic Cormorant is the only cormorant known to plunge-dive into water to catch fish. Unlike gannets and boobies, it does not dive from great heights, restricting its dives to less than a half-meter (1.75 feet) over the water. It is not particularly successful with this technique, catching a fish only once in every six to ten plunges. It definitely is successful with catching nesting materials tho! :)

In Mexico, Neotropic Cormorants reportedly often fish cooperatively, forming a line across swift-flowing streams and striking the surface with their wings, causing fish to flee, whereupon the cormorants dive and pursue them.

Hello Brenda
such a marvellous moment well shot and presented. The action packed is well seen with splashes of water surrounding the "vampire".
Excellent composition and very well worth waiting.

Hello Brenda,
What a unique and rather comical shot you have posted. The cormorant is certainly drenched in this shot, but it has the look of determination on it's face.
The focus is right where it should be the head and facial areas, you can even see it's blue eyes. I love the way you managed to freeze all the tiny water droplets in mid air. Well done Brenda!!

Hello Brenda

What super efforts these birds must require to come out of the water just like that. Action shot like this starkly convey the brute strength of this bird in its required niche..Very well captured and presented.

Thanks
Himanshu

Hi Brenda,
Interesting shot and with a very good moment captured.
Perfect point of view.
Regards Jiri.

Hi Brenda, What a wonderful capture of this Cormorant. I could imagine the sound it created by the splash as I see in the picture. The enormous water hanging down from the cormorant and your perfect camera setting frozen the moment. Awesome shot with right timing. Thank for sharing
