Was sitting by my window when she flew in. Rapid fire and lo and behold captured her as she landed on this little bud. It was perfect timing as she flitted off right after the shot

The zebra longwing, Heliconius charitonia (Linnaeus), was designated the state butterfly of Florida in 1996.

They sleep in the same place each night (with other Zebra butterflies), and are such sound sleepers that you can just about go and pick one up.

Their wing span averages about three inches.

The Zebra butterfly is named for its zebra-like yellow stripes. The female lays her eggs on leaves. Most butterflies perch and love to bask in the sun. Scientists believe their wings collect sun rays and act as a "solar heater".

The lifespan of a butterfly is short, from a few days to about 8 months. Their diet is nectar and pollen and their enemies; Snakes, frogs, birds, and mammals. Humans (chemicals).

Hello Brenda
such a beauty well presented with nicely spread wings. Exciting colors with good contrast. The smooth blurry background of the greenish hue is so attractive and pleasant.
Exciting composition.

Hello Brenda,
Just got back from vacationing at Chautauqua Lake in NY. so I haven't been on much lately. I see you captured a really nice photo of this beautiful Zebra Longwing. I love the soft BG and the way the butterfly stands out in perfect focus. The overall composition and quality is awesome and a real eyecatcher!!
