These small brown California Myotis were photographed in a tunnel on an aqueduct east of San Diego.
California Myotis tend to roost in smaller groups than some of the other species in this large genus. They are nocturnal insectivores that roost in in caves, tunnels, mine shafts or cracks in canyon walls.
This species occurs on the western parts of the North American continent from Alaska down until the Mexican state of Chiapas. |

Wow! Thats quite a crowded roost for sure. Didnt they take off on seeing the flash go off? I'm not sure if I'd have have volunteered to be in that tunnel with you to find out. Not much to comment on the shot itself - only wish is for more details especially on those wide open jaws. Thanks for sharing!!
