There have been quite a few wonderful shots posted lately with the fall season as the theme. So here is my fall colors shot. This was a difficult exposure with filtered sunlight, dark shade, and alot of water reflections. I think I was lucky it came out OK.

Another shot from one of my favorite locations, the St. Louis Zoo. The zoo has a large outdoor flight cage that was built for the 1904 Worlds Fair in St. Louis. The large cage is on its third renovation, and is now modeled after swamps in the southern United States. 16 different species of birds are contained in the free flight cage.

This is a photo of a White Ibis

Range: North and South America, West Indies
Habitat: Marshes, mangroves, lakes, lagoons, swamps
Conservation Status: Not listed by IUCN
Scientific Name: Eudocimus albus

This sociable wading bird is quite common in many parts of its range. It roosts and feeds in flocks, and nests in large colonies, often with birds of other species.

White ibises spend most of their day foraging in shallow water for crabs, crayfish, insects, snails, frogs, snakes, and small fish. They find their prey by wading slowly and probing the mud and water carefully with their long, curved bill.

The birds build their nests in low trees and thickets, from two to 15 feet off the ground. Both male and female cooperate in building the nest, which is usually a platform of sticks, grass, or reeds. The female lays two to three eggs, which hatch after three weeks.

Young white ibises are dark brown with a white belly and rump. Their parents feed them by regurgitating food from their stomachs. They start making short flights after four or five weeks, and by seven weeks are old enough to begin foraging with the colony.

Beautiful capture Scott!
The intensity of the fall colors turning the water red!
Excellent creative way to post a fall color theme!
I like all the elements of this shot: The cypress knees in the upper left, lower right, and behind the White Ibis' head. The White Ibis. And, of course the reflections of fall colors.

Well seen!
Thanks,
Dave

Excellent capture Scott. I like the composition and the reflections seen are fantastic. Great exposure, details & sharpness. Perfect timing as the ibis dips its beak, creating the expanding concentric ripples in the waters surface. I like it!

Very interesting textures and colors on the water. Love the Ibis, I added it to my theme hope you don't mind. Nice shot, Scott.

Hi Scott,

I really like this shot and the color of the water produced by the yellow and red leaves from the autumn.
If I go to St-Louis, I'll have to take a visit to this zoo for sure :-)

Hmmm, I was trying to figure out where you'd find a swamp in St. Louis, LOL!

Amazing capture here. I love the colors, the reflection, the POV, everything! A+++!!
