| Saguaro cactus - Carnegiea gigantea - the classical western movies and cartoons cactus tree. Growing in "forests" especially in Arizona, riches up to 15 m height, but taller individuals are not uncommon. In may it sends many white flowers at the tip of the branches (the saguaro flower is the official flower symbol of the state of Arizona), folowed two weeks later by green fruits. When riped, the fruits crack open, showing the red sweet pulp that makes the delicacy for so many desert animals. The native americans use also this fruits for culinary purposes. |
