Well I wasn't going to post today becuase of the Holiday, but just as I got ready to sit down for the meal this Blue Jay landed on my feeding log, grab my camera and started shooting! Got several good shots so thought I would post one. Hope you like it, I had fun taking it.

Blue Jay
Cyanocitta cristata

Description:

12" (30 cm). Bright blue above with much white and black in the wings and tail; dingy white below; black facial markings; prominent crest.

Habitat:

Chiefly oak forest, but now also city parks and suburban yards, especially where oak trees predominate.

Nesting:

4-6 brown-spotted greenish eggs in a coarsely built nest of sticks, lined with grass and well concealed in a crotch or forked branch of a tree, often a conifer.

Range:

Resident east of Rockies, from southern Canada to Gulf of Mexico. Slowly encroaching westward.

Voice:

A raucous jay-jay, harsh cries, and a rich variety of other calls. One is almost identical to the scream of the Red-shouldered Hawk. Also a musical queedle-queedle.

Beautiful - "Lazzaro's Log" strikes again! Soft lighting, smooth background, pin sharp and nicely posed. Quite a slow shutter speed, so lucky he was standing very still for a moment ;)
Thanks, Nigel.

Excellent sharp & clean picture Greg
Colors and details are just amzingly perfect... for a quick shot ;-)
Happy Thanksgiving

Hi Greg,

Excellent shot and well composed. Excellent work.

The American Blue Jay is Blue ALL over, or is it that white balance again.
The details are fantastic etc.
Anyway, double check, in a friendly way. You could compare colors if you wish with my posting.

He is handsome!
Excellent job shooting him;-)
That log really works well. I meant to look for one today, but didn't get a-round-tu-it.
Maybe tomorrow.
I've added a couple of new feeders. The birds really love those black sunflower seeds.
Thanks for the excellent post,
Dave

Hi Gregory,
wonderful colours and good composition. Everything is sharp and clean - maybe overly so, this is so perfect it gets into danger of looking almost a bit sterile. Naturally I am nitpicking again and now I find myself complaining it is too perfect ;-)

Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Interesting thing, I've never seen such a blue bird before, it looks almost artificial. Brilliant shot, but I feel it is cropped too close to the tail. A bit more space on the bottom would also do.
