Good evening.

Ok, new prop, went out and found be a 12" in diameter log that I could stand upright, drilled 1" deep and 1" in diameter hole in the top of the log, then 3 similiar holes on each side and one in the front. Trying for a different composition with a more natural feel to it. This is the result, female house sparrow. I also was able to get a Wren and a Nuthatch but haven't had a chance to really look them over yet. So, let me know what you think.

Greg

Your yard-bird wizardry is amazing Greg. I've been mostly guilty of neglecting my own back yard but seeing your efforts I'm gonna try something out soon. Congrats on achieving superb lighting under "cold, dark skies, heavy overcast" conditions ... we do get a "bit" of that kind of weather up here in Seattle too :) One small observation is that your USM was a tad conservative here .. deliberate (?) Thanks for sharing!

A lovely sparrow, Gregory. Very sharp details, good light, wonderful POV and composition. Well done and TFS. : )

Hi Greg,
Beautiful feathers colors and details, enhanced against the neutral BG. I like to see eyes detailed so well. This is a very good bird shot. Nice also to see that on both sides of the Atlantic, we have the same sparrows. (I have a bunch of these here this winter). Thanks for the note. Seems to work well :-).

Hi Greg,
I was gonna accuse you of just rotating a shot from your feeding log. (Just kidding) Great idea, and it looks like it is working well. Excellent colors, detail, and DOF here. Perfect OOF backround!

A nice composition Greg. Perfect light and natural color with a very good OOF clean BG.
The eye and beak are just a bit soft focused..

Fantastic image. Greate DOF. I really like the tecture in this image. I did not quite like the virtical nature of the image so I created a workshop. Its a simple composition change.

Let me know what you think

Jeff

Good close up detail here Greg, though I think you've just missed the critical focus on the eye there. Feather detail onthe back is excellent.

Gregory, I have the feeling that focus could be better on the head/eye. You used f/4.8, as I can see above; as for speed, 1/60, according to your note, although on the data above it's written 30 seconds.

I guess light conditions were not that good. If they were, maybe could have used something like f/8. By doing so, maybe focus on the head could a even better.

Apart from these opinions, I do enjoy the shot. Composition is okay to me, as well as the pattern upon the back feathers. Excellent bg.

I really like this one!

Almost monochrome, sharp and beautifully exposed. Excellent details in the feathers. And I like the bird hanging to a vertical tree. It seems so easy for the to defy gravity.
Great work Greg and TFS.
