[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I am afraid this note will not be as long or as informative as others I have written because frankly I don't know a great deal about this Damselfly. I do know that it is an Ebony Jewel Wing and it is a male. I photographed it this past June while on a workshop for photographing "Wetlands". There were several of these beautiful damsels that live up to their names and look like either emeralds or sapphires depending on which way the light strikes them. The ebony wings are so very striking against the light and bright Spring green foliage and they were easy to spot. They are most often found in wetland, marshy areas. This was one of the last shoots I did with my EOS 10D as I had just received my 1D MKII and would start to use it after this.

First time I see this Lesley. May be you have the right ID.
I like it. We can see the leg's reflection in the water. Your title is very appropriated for this Nature's beauty.
Good composition and great DOF. TFS.

Truely a beautiful damselfly. I see them all the time when I'm fishing. They like to hang around the river bank. Excelent cature as they don't like to sit long.
Well done

Mike

Good shot! The damselfly himself is nicely captured (although I'd probably like a little more DOF to bring the tip of the abdomen sharp). I'm in two minds about the leaf in bokeh that seems to mirror the pose of the damselfly - on some levels I like the way it echoes the damselfly, but sometimes I wonder whether it distracts from him instead. Anyway a very nice capture :-D

Very good capture Lesley of this delicate subject. Excellent detail and good composition. Well done.

Hi Lesley what you have here is what we this side of the pond call a Demoiselle , because it holds its wings together above its body instead of folded along side the body. I looks so close to our Calopteryx virgo (Beautiful Demoiselle, your wings look slightly darker but thats all.
Have a look at this one for some more info on demoiselles its our other speices the banded one because the black is only in the middle of the wing.

It a very good capture of this critter. The metallic is really nice and I wish I could see one in real life.

Good shot Lesley. Nice detail on the legs and torso. A bit soft on the tail, but not really a worry. I did 'n WS, hope you like it.

Your title says it all, no need to say more.

Lesley, Great detail shown. I don't think I've seen this one before. The blue-green metallic along with the black wings & large black eyes give this one a very unique look. Great comp. with the wet leaf adding a nice effect to the shot. Well done!

Un bonita composicion a partir de un agradable POV que permite ver el insecto en todo su esplendor.
Buena agudeza y colorido, con atinado DOF y encuadre.
La segunda imagen del workshop es de inferior calidad que esta.

A pretty composition from an pleasant POV that allows to see the insect in all their splendor.
Good colorful and sharpness, with accurate DOF and frame.
The second image of workshop is of inferior quality that this.

This is truly beautiful. The damselfly is sharp from end to end and I love the color.

Thanks for posting

Wonderful shot Lesley. Such good detail and colours. Very well done

Hello Lesley,
