Another photograph taken at the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel Island, Florida. This guy was just sitting on the rock doing a little preening, and waiting for the outgoing tide to drop the water level low enough for him to hop down and start feeding.

This shot was in a heavily shaded creek area with some filtered sunlight coming thru the mangrove trees. Handheld at 1/60 with the IS on. Not razor sharp, but happy with the results for the conditions. The light allowed for good color saturation.

Tricolored heron - Egretta tricolor

Sitt'n on the rock of the bay
Watching the Tide roll away...

Can we have music with this shot Scott?...;-)
Looks like you have done an excellent job under the conditions you noted. The BG seems slightly busy with this one, but the bird and the rock are quite excellent.
I'm looking hard at that Canon 20D. It will probably be later in the year rather than sooner if at all, but I'm figuring...;-)I have some super old Olympus lenses, but not too many, so Canon looks like the logical choice from what I've seen and read. I'll still like my little Nikon S2 for making it easy to always pack a camera.
Anyway,
I hope you have a fantastic and very Happy New Year! I'll be working across mine, but like Howard I'm looking forward to 2006...

Best Regards,
Dave

I really like the POV on this one, Scott. The pose is wonderful.
Apt title and very sharp details. Overall great composition.
Well done and TFS. : )

Very nice shot of the Heron Scott, I almost see it as a cover shot for a magazine. :)

Great technical and artistic realisation. You must have a lot of "playng ground" regarding watching wildlife in Florida.

Have a great New Year!
Regards, Petru

Scott, this is extremely beautiful.

Excellent exposure, great sharpness pose and details to show us this very beautiful animal.

The bg is very beautiful too.

Congratulations and happy 2006.

Hi Scott,
beautiful picture, the colours are lovely.
Very well composed, great POV and details.
Excellent work, my friend.

Happy New Year.

Scott,
Seems like I am always saying this may be your best shot. It's not my attempt at flattery. I firmly believe you are progressing with each shot you take. I love the detail of the feet, and the rock.
The texture of the feathers is incredible. The background usually would be distracting but this is a very valuable asset in this picture because it's colorful and just blurred enough to lend texture but not take away from the subject. I strongly agree with Toucadoo about being on the cover of a magazine. This shot is superb. You titled the shot well and left good, complete notes. What more could a viewer ask for? This one is as good as it get's.
GREAT post!
Scott
