Hi Dave,
My wish is that everyone's new year is better than the last one. I am also wishing for you to get a beautiful new 20D. The composition and framing are excellent. He is staring at that beautiful landscape just like I would. I might have to come down there and shoot a panaromic off your front pourch.
Keep them coming!
Scott

Dave, I have lots of trouble getting birds (and lions, etc) sharp, so I say "Good on you!"
This one's had enough of the old year and refuses to look back. Look forward...

Hi Dave,
the composition and framing is good.
When shooting throu the glass make shure that the flash is off and hold the lens tight to the glass.
You can see an example here Koala.
Well done.
Hope you get the 20d soon.

Hi Dave.
I think that not only the soft focus is yet unsolved, but also the glass is eating (by reflexion) some of the flash' power. Have you tried do overexpose a 1/2 or even 1 step (I think Aperture priority)?
You still got some consistent results though.

Hi Dave, nice composition. would write similar to my last critique but add the following, it's always difficult to get the correct exposure on your subject if the BG has lots of light. Your camera has metered off the bright light in the BG.
Well done, keep them coming.

Hey, get that bird to turn around Dave..
05 is gone - no lookin' back! ;-)
If I might suggest, shoot with the window open when you can. The glass will affect flash effectiveness and focus with your camera..
TFS and keep em' coming!

Hi Dave,
Nice pose for the occasion, very good on composition.
My main nit is the noise, and if you try to reduce that with PP you will loose too much detail in the feathers (I tried but unsuccessfully). The noise/signal ratio is not so good, but this much depends on the size of the imaging sensor, and obviously there is not much you can do about that, except to avoid low light situations (haha...), or use a flash, which you do. You already mentioned the soft focus.
Light situation was not easy and bits of BG are OE, but your subject I find neither too dark nor too light, so you handled things well.
Regards,
Gabi
