[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today is my last day of vacation. It rained non-stop for the duration of my two weeks of winter break. I did not get a chance to go out and take any pictures. Two years ago, after such a severe winter storm, we went out to the beach and found it littered with all sorts of debris, including quite a few interesting animal carcasses, including this one.

Octopus vulgaris
The octopus, which is also called "devilfish," is a predatory mollusc with a pouch-shaped body and eight powerful arms with two rows of suction discs on each. It also has an ink sac, which it uses to darken the water when it senses danger.
Octopuses are related to squids, cuttlefish, nautiloid, and other molluscs such as snails, mussels and clams. They can creep over hard surfaces using their arms; when they travel through water they move by jet propulsion, taking in water and ejecting it forcibly through a funnel as their muscular mantle contracts. They vary in size from a few centimetres to the giant octopus of the Pacific Ocean which can grow to over 10 m. Some species are edible, including the ink!

Hello Manyee, nice shot. I like the composition with the flowing lines, I also like the low POV. It looks rather a tragic scene. I hope going back to work won't be too bad :-)

Well done

Manyee, I had never seen one of these before.

Great capture of this animal, althoug I agree with Paul: a rather tragic scene.

Unusual but necessary image.

I agree with the consensus that it is a bit "tragic" ManYee. It's an interesting shot though and I like the multiple colors of seaweed I see. My sister also lives in California and I've heard from her & on the news that you guys are soaked! Send some of that wet stuff over here!! We're suffering from the worst drought in 50 years they say..
Well done.
Thank You!

Hello Manyee!
It's very good shot. I like the composition and colors very much. And it's also very interesting one.
Happy New Year!

Well Manyee it definitely looks dead and thats too bad as I find these animals more attractive looking when they're swimming around, besides that, it's a great exposure. Kalamari anyone? :)

Hello Manyee,
good compo and colors, an unusual animal to photograph very easy to hide, unfortunately this is was dead.
TFS,
Nelson

I too like the composition of the seaweed and kelp along with the octopus.

There is a fair bit of light reflected off of the wet sand, though. Not sure if a slightly different angle (left or right) might have reduced this or ...
