Hi Scott
You are right; the spotlight effect enhanced this butterfly beautifully and edged it nicely against the dark BG.
The composition is excellent with the leaf carrying the insect into the frame. The colours are stunning, the DOF is absolutely spot-on, and the exposure was perfect.

The lighting hitting the beauty here does looks good Scott.
I think I would have cropped off the OOF flowers and then the B'fly would also not be so centred. But you show us a very attractive butterfly, super colours and details. TFS

the composition I nice Scott.
The shot is well taken. I think I would used here a fill in flash, special for the upper side of the wings, but thats personal. The pov is good and Yes I like it too. Good job.

A very nice shot, I agree, the diffused light has worked really well. Colours and detail are excellent, my only nit would be that the POV is a little low and has allowed the leaf to obscure the Butterfly. Love the black background!

Scott,
I'd have been delighted with another raptor shot, but your still on a roll! I have a similar photo of this same butterfly on the same leaf. Of course yours is a much better quality image. I think the white edges of the butterfly are superb. I really like the transparency of the leaf and the shadow (looks like a grasshopper shadow) You captured the antennea against the black background well too.

Ooo nice shot. I love the backlit compostion here. You would think the small flowers on the left would distract you from the butterfly but it doesn't. I think the pearch plays a great deal in this shot. The colors of the flowers accents the colors of the butterfly very well. Very nice shot. I love the shadw on the leaf
