[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Greater Sandhill Crane which is also called the Southern Sandhill because it lives year round in the southern part of the US like in Florida. It is also larger than the Lesser or Northern Sandhill. I enjoy seeing this large and lovely birds whenever I am in Florida. They differ from Herons in many characteristics of posture and behavior. Sandhills can be found in open fields and meadows which is why they are so very often sighted on golf courses in Florida.

Japie, posted a nice crane the other day now you. I love the cranes especially mugshots of them. This is a really nice shot of one I haven't seen before. The backlight creates a nice effect. Nice shot, Lesley.

Nice Sandhill shot, seems as though the light was harsh on the far side of the bird. It really lets you see the features- and from your notes, I have learned that there are different species. We have hords of them all around Eastern Idaho, I love to hear their vocals, loud. Ours winter in Texas and New Mexico.
Well done (nice camera and lens also).

A very good image of this regale bird , any lower POV and we could of see though the beak slits to the field beyond.
A realy majestic bird well captured.

Perfectos detalles en el plumaje del ave con bella composicion y excelente agudeza.

Perfect details in the plumage of the bird with beautiful composition and excellent sharpness.

Wonderful composition. The details in the feathers and the texture on the top of the head are great. The almost rim/backlighting adds an interesting dimension to the bird as well, especially on the beak.
