Ok...so I know this isn't my best work, but there is something about it that I like. Perhaps it is the memory of taking it since I was on a slow moving electric pontoon boat down a lazy creek with warm sunshine and no humidity. Anyway, this was one of many Great Blue Herons I watched while in Florida. They have pretty much all left the northeast and migrated south for the winter so it was a real treat to be among so many.

The males are very busy right now gathering large twigs and small branches and making their nests high above in the tree tops. This may seem a bit early, but Spring time comes early in Florida. The men make the best nests they can in hopes that theirs will be the one that attracts a female to mate with. For any of you that have seen a rookery , you know how impressive it is to see the large nests at the tops of trees with large Herons balancing with elegant grace upon them.

Lesley, easy on yourself. This is very clear and detailed. You have the heron on the correct side. Just need a full view, legs and nest, it would be a winner.
Well done

Mike

Very good Lesley.
It's great picture with nice colours, good details and great pose.
Very well done.

Lesley, It's a great shot, I'm sure I don't know what the heck you're talkin' bout! Sharp & detailed with great light. Great post this one!

I agree - what the heck are you talkin about? This is a great shot - crisp, sharp details. A great pose too.
Great job!

A very good shot, very sharp.
Well done.

Gotta agree with the others. This is a tack sharp Heron post. Nothing wrong here. Nice one.

The feather and eye detail in this is excellent. I can find one, sorry two things wrong here. It is not my shot and I wasn't on the pontoon!

Very well done and thanks for posting

beautiful. big bird with great colours and details.

Another really sharp one! I like the mean, hunched up look - fishes beware!

One of the best blue heron shots I've ever seen. I'm amazed you were able to get so close. Great saturation and focus. Composition is first rate.
