I particularly like the color composition, with a perfect background putting this marvelous blue heron really in front of the image. Light is very well displayed to enhance both feathers texture and head details. A very elegant image, Lesley.

Wonderful colour of this bird Lesley. We unfortunately don't have a large amount of colourful wild birds in New Zealand so it is always a pleasure to share what others have to offer. This one is a real treat. TFS

This is a great post, containing both an excellent image and interesting note. The sharpness and DOF is superb and I love the eye contact.

The following is not a nit, but something I try with most of my shots. Have you tried to flip the shot horizontally? There are no rules governing it and it is not someting I can explain.
