I have left a large note on one of my early postings of this Grebe, they are better swimmers than they are fliers .. her nest with eggs is just a half meter to the left, she did not desert her eggs .. she kept diving and then re-surfing and crying out, her mate trying the same tactic from a feet meters away ..

On the lake proper, away from the wetlands, I can hardly get close enough to get a decient shot, they dive and swim away .. Sadly, this is a lake in the
Local Irrigation District, The contollers of the Irrigation District rasied the water level at a critical moment in this birds life cycle and I think last summers chicks were lost ...

If I would rate this myself ... an "almost" perfict capture ... would iso 400 and a longer DOF
ie: increased f stop, have captured the beck better, I tried to sharpen a little bit, still no perfict ...solution

Hi Scott,

GREAT POV, really!

Great exposure - not an easy task on these birds with their red eyes and contrasty faces!

You wrote it yourself: A couple of f's up!

This is a very cool photo Scott! Great detail on the grebe. Perhaps a bit more of the bottom blurry FG could have been cropped, and some clonning out of that blurry leaf and the stick would make for an even more impressive photo.

Excelent picture Scott, détails are good for a picture at f4 !!!
I am wondering how come the plant on the left side and the bird are in focus ? It's like if they where not at the same depth ?

I quite agree with previous comments. Not much to add. TFS.

I love this one, Scott.
What a great POV.
Probably only possible from your kayak.
Sharp details and wonderful colors.
The pose is comical.
TFS. : )

Hi Scott,
This really looks excellent. You have the excellent sharpness going on now. The increase of DOF would also sharpen the surrounding plant material and distract from the bird. Beautiful colors in this spot on exposure. Did I mention that it was really sharp??? Nice shot.
Scott

Hello Scott,
A great one! The pose is awesome, and the red eye is an effective eye catcher...
Well composed, pleasant close-up work!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hallo Scott
What an impressive punk you have here. I just love this Grebe's hairstyle, oops I mean feather style. That red eye and yellow beak is just so remarkable. The water droplets add the finishing touches to this special photo. I must tell you, If I see this bird at night time, I’ll probably dive under the bed. That snow white face really looks spooky. Thanks for sharing. It was lovely to look at.
Kind regards
Anna
