John Muir Trail #4
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Almost halfway through the Muir Trail (100 miles), here's the view to Marie Lake from Selden Pass. The view above timberline is amazing.
Scanned from a 35mm negative. (Pretty decent shot from a P&S, eh? Of course the bright conditions meant a small aperature.) There's still some evidence of cloning in the sky. (Somebody mentioned a "repair" function that I don't have in Picassa. If you have an alternative, let me know.) A contrast and color adjustment, sharpen, resize and frame.
While teh last shot above timberline looked very similar to this one, you can see a bit more variety in the nest shot, which was taken below timberline . |

Beautiful landscape. I really admire good landscape pictures.. they're much harder to take than most people realize. You have lots of objects both near and far to focus on.. the range in light is good... and you have lots of different colors and textures to look at. It's a very busy photo! It reminds me a bit of a place I went to that's south of Lake Tahoe (on the California side) called Lake Aloha -- it is surrounded by desolate wilderness, and is most easily accessed by a trail that starts at Echo Lake. The surrounding areas of Lake Aloha are rocky with some vegetation, and lots of snow capped mountains in the background (much like this photo!). Thanks for sharing!
