With great affection we call the Black-capped Chickadee a "Dee". This particular "Dee" had just eaten out of my hand and so rewarded me with a nicely posed photo. Our Dees are year round birds and are a never ending supply of pleasure with their comic antics. They are very chatty as well and will follow you around until you reach their city limits...the area they stake out as their territory.

The sanctuary I usually haunt was quite lively yesterday after a cold snap we had...it was well above freezing...so the birds were all a flutter and hungry. I think I have mentioned before that the Dees in this sanctuary have been eating out of human hands for many many years, but now it appears that this behavior has rubbed off on other species as well. Much to my surprise I had Tufted Titmice and White-breasted Nuthatches hogging the seed in my hand alongside of the Dees. I felt like St Francis and wished I had another photog along to take photos of these wonderful creatures eating out of the palm of my hand. There is something very spiritual and moving when a wild creature trusts you enough to make physical contact. An experience everyone should have at least once.

Fantastic shot.
Beautiful bird, fantastic photo.

It's really bird's season here today. I'm never tired of watching birds. This one is very nice, and having such a small wild bird on your hand must be thrilling. Your photo is perfect to me, nice pose, beautiful feathers details, soft light, but enough to capture a glimpse in the eye. Great shot again, Lesley.

Beautiful Lesley. Those birds are really "human friendly". Your picture has lots of details and the sharpness and BG are just right on. I like the spirit of your note too.

Superb post Lesley. Good detail and great composition. Lucky you, I wish wild birds would pose for me. Good job

Nice shot, lighting and colours are good, feather detail is good, perhaps a touch more USM applied to the eye area would benefit this, but on the whole a good shot.

A very cute 'Mésange à Tête Noire', Lesley.
Lovely pose.
All the qualities of a better than excellent picture.
I have the same feeling as yours when they come to eat in my hands sunflower seeds. If you wish another great feeling, put a sunflower seed between your lips and perhaps one of these lovely bird will kiss you. That already happens to me and it is a good souvenir.
A great work: picture and a very relevant note.
Thanks a lot.

Aw, cute ;-)) Great capture, tack sharp - as usual - catchlight, oof bg, it's all there.
It must have been a great experience to meet these trusting critters close up and having their little feet tripping across your hand ;-))

Like Ornis, I am never tired of watching birds. Coming from a country that doesn't have many colourful native birds, joining TN and seeing these wonderful birds, I am so pleased. This little fellow is cute. TFS, Janice

Nice shot Lesley, atouch dark around the head/bill but its a good composition and the colours are very nice.

Beautiful picture Lesley.

It most be amazing to have a little bird like this eat out of ones hand (some of my subjects want to eat my hand :))The name Dee is also suited for this dainty creature.

The sharpness and composition is excellent.

Very well done and thanks for posting
