What is Blonde, 5'6" in height, and weighs 138 pounds at birth. It's D.J. a newborn male baby giraffe. D.J. was about 10 days on when this photo was taken. I have posted two workshop photos to show him by size compared to his mother. Very shy and clumsy, but the cutness factor is very very high.

Reticulated Giraffe

Range: Eastern Africa
Habitat: African savanna
Conservation Status: Near threatened
Scientific Name: Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata

The giraffe is the tallest living land animal. Males can reach a height of 16 to 18 feet while females are somewhat smaller at 14 to 16 feet.

Giraffes are known for their spotted coats. Different subspecies (types) of giraffes have different patterns of spots. Reticulated giraffes (the kind they have at the Saint Louis Zoo) have large brown spots separated by cream-colored lines. Males are darker than females.

Hi Scott
A very well captured shot showing us this cute little guy in all his youthful beauty. I pretty much liked the supplement material you posted in the 2 workshops, especially your "attempt at artistic composition" while the other one gives excellent reference to scale. Howard has also done well with his workshop in removing the bits of highlights in the mid-ground.
Your photo did well on all other aspects. Great composition and crop, lovely colours, sharp details, and the exposure was well controlled.
Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi Scott,

Now this is one tall baby!
Pleasant colours and good sharpness.

Regards, Petru

Hi Scott,
A real cutie!
Interesting workshop, not only because of the size but I also notice considerable differenses in shape as this one still has some baby features...
Well composed... Good details and colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -

He is just adorable, Scott. : )
Great shot with great POV and good details and light.
I really appreciate the photos in WS that show his size relative to his mother. They really help to put him in perspective.
Thanks for sharing this cutie pie with us. : )

Very sharp and detailed, with excellent light, color, DOF, and framing..So tell me.. Did you have to make funny sounds to get this babe to look your way..or was it your cologne :)

Hello Scott,
Wondeful capture,exposure is spot on.I liked colors,shy eye contact,POV,details and composition a lot.TFS...:-)

Hi Scott,
What a beautiful photos. All of them have something beautiful to it. While one shows the size of D.J. perfectly, the other shows his shyness. The adoring factor in these photos is extreemly high!
All aspects in this photo are perfect (exposure, light, colors and sharpness.)
TFS,
Niek

Hi Scott,
I thought I'd added a critique for this, however I'm back here and obviously didn't. Ho hum, must be getting old ;-)

These are amazing to see, the way they wobble about. Purity and innocence all bundled up with some cuteness rolled in too. Very nice shot, great detail and exposure and the pose is good, almost like he's posing for you.

It's a great shot, I also like Howard's workshop and I like your workshop pictures too, both great shots. I especially like the one with the Mothers neck arched across the top, unusual and a very artistic approach.

Good note too, a great and very complete post!
Cheers,
Adrian

Wow!lovely long legs :) very cute indeed...Nice capture Scott...
Well done...

Hi Scott,
Interesting capture.
Very nice details, sharp and colors.
Well done.

Hi Scott,

Very nice capture of this beautiful artiodactyl, Giraffes are one of my favorites. Excellent exposure shows off the colors and patterns well.
:)

Scott,
What a wonderful sight this was. I wasn't feeling well but this Giraffe made me smile that day. You made it happen again! He IS very cute. I would suggest that for anyone not realizing the size, to look at your others in your workshop. I happen to like the one with the adults neck sticking out chewing on the tree leaf. I KNOW how small this guy is so this is a fine shot in my book. but to others it may seem larger than it is, even with your notes. I think you captured, framed and composed this one well.....I think it's a beauty that awaits your ArtEast Art Gallery in October. Nice job buddy,
Scott

hello Scott,
good vista, I never see a tiny giraffe.
well compose and nice concise note, but is a pity, the messure units aren´t in International system; and difficult the comparison ( is not a problem for me, but I´m not seeing this pic in my house)with worldwide units.

Hi Scott, cute little giraffe. Excellent details, colours, exposure and lighting. I like the way he is looking at you, very very cute. Well done and TFS.

Hello Scott,
Just updating my critique :-)
This is a lovely shot! The little girrafe looks more cute than I ever expected it could look. Very good POV and framing.
WELL DONE!

Very sweet little fellow. There are some strange animals on earth, if we think about them. One of the saddest things I ever saw, was a baby and mother sperated by a fence in the Mysore zoo. they could almost touch. They called each other, straining to touch.

Excellent exposure, colours and POV! Very cute!

I love how he stands out against the darker background, his spots almost seem to glow. Certainly A+ for the cuteness alone, well done.

Hi Scott

What a beautiful babe we have here. Look at those strong legs. I watched a programme on National Geographic some months ago called 'Tall Blondes'. If you haven't seen it and get the opportunity to, it is a great documentary on Giraffe. Love this shot. Thanks.
