I actually do like the dark grey cloud... gives the sunset a certain character. The colors are gorgeous, and the details are so sharp. Really a wonderful composition.

Great Scott
Taking a photo of a sunset with heavy grey clouds that seems not so extraordinary or spectacular and then presents it in a fashion that appeals to the senses surely must fall in the category of art. You have done more than adequate with this shot.
Technically the composition is perfect. The horizon is absolutely level and lying nicely on the 1/3 horizontal axis. The bottom 2/3’s are excellently divided into 2 triangles by the diagonal caused by the ocean and the shore line. The sun makes its entry exactly at the 1/3 vertical axis and its reflection on the water runs all the way down this line. The opening in the clouds run along until the 2/3 vertical axis and from this point the grey clouds takes over causing a darkish band down the right hand 1/3 of the photo. This is textbook stuff and definitively not just another point and shoot sunset.
The colours are great, the details are sharp unto infinity, and the exposure was excellently handled.

Good luck on your vacation. I hope you have a lot of fun and take some killer shots. I like this shot, it has a lot of depth and a great tonal range. The sun isn't over-exposed and for taking a picture in it's direction, that's difficult. I like the diagonal line created by the beach, it takes my eye all the way to the back of the photo. Fine job and good luck with some good shots!

fantastic exposure, not overexposed with the sun, not underexposed anywhere else.

my ony other thoughts woudl have been along the lines of a longer exposure using an nd filter just to get the softer wave action, but its hard to find anything wrong with this compostion.

Your photo was pointed out to me as one that was posted with the same title as mine "Solitude" only a day apart. Yours has way more drama and color to it though! What a gorgeous sky, I love the diagonal nature of the scene and the beautiful clouds, well done. Thanks for including the definition of Solitude, that was cool.

Wow, beautiful! What a moment. Sounds like paradise for me, absolute peace. Beautiful colours and stunning depth of field for f/4. Nicely composed, I'm guessing you're looking out into the Gulf of Mexico. That wide angle lens really shows the Earth's curvature, excellent work. I look forward to seeing some more.
