[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was quite astonished last week when I was at the sanctury and this little fella or gal flew up and landed on my hand to eat some sunflower seeds. This was the first time a White-breasted Nuthatch has made physical contact with me as usually in the past it was only the Chickadees. There were two, a pair I assume, that were so friendly and real hogs for the food. This fella would sit on the tree extremely close to me...at times too close for the 100-400mm lens @100mm to focus... I would take it's photo and then hold my hand out . The Nuthatch would immediately fly to my hand and take it's sweet time choosing which seed it wanted...look at me, check out the seed, look at me again, choose the seed, make it's little squeaks and fly off. A few times when it was on my hand it allowed me to use my thumb and slowly stroke it's back. Then there were the times when the other Nuthatch or Chickadees and Tufted Titmice would try to come in for a landing, but the Nuthatch would squawk fiercely and chase them off. I found myself chuckling more than once at the antics of this delightful bird.

Judging by the shot, if the head is somewhat black, then you captured the male. The female's head is the same color as the color of the back.
You did well in capturing the White breasted nuthatch.

Mike

What a cheeky, perky, cocky little beauty you've captured here. Great capture of this little fluffy fellow, and nicely set off against a clean bg to boot.
I do envy you these experiences with birds, feeling the little feet tripping around on your hand ;-))

This is beautyful!
Nice crop, lights and detail!

Superb Lesley. You are posting some great bird shots lately Keep it up. TFS.

Very good picture Lesley.
I can see the different between your and our nuthatch.
Our looks like a robber with the black mask round the eyes.
Very good details, colours and composition.
Well done.

Another great picture Lesley!
The bird is very sharp and clear and the light is excellent!
The DOF is great too!

WellDone!

You really must enjoy having these little guys so close - what a wonderful feeling it must be. This is another excellent shot, probably one of your best looking at his attitude. Techniques perfect as usual.

I am jealous about this shot and the experience that you described. The sharpness is excellent and so is the composition.

Very well done and thanks for posting

Very nice shot Lesley... and good "real life" story. I particularly like the composition and background.

I have been away from TN for a while, so I missed this one. I hope I will be able to deliver photos like that with my new toy!
