[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along the body when at rest. Damselflies are also usually smaller, and weaker fliers than dragonflies, and their eyes are separated.
The Ebony Jewelwing, Calopteryx maculata, is a broad wing damselfly so named for the blue iridescence of the male's black wings (maculata means stain, mark, spot). This individual is an adult female, distinguishable by the white markings on the wings, a drab body and black eyes. The eyes of juveniles are brown.
This damsel prefers wooded wetland clearings and lays its eggs most commonly in slow shaded streams. The female oviposits alone in submerged vegetation while the male guards her; he may even guard multiple females. Ebony Jewelwings are “perchers”, spending a fair amount of time perching on vegetation.

What a beautiful photo, Greg! I love the green showing through the wings. You have good detail on the hair on the legs and pattern of the wings. Well done!

Beautiful green background with this almost completely silhouetted damselfly, this has an excellent final result. :)

Hi Greg
Wow, what a beautiful damselfly. Quite the opposite colouration than the one I just uploaded. These are fabulous dainty little insects. The bright green BG enhanced and shows this specimen rather well.
Great composition with good colouration, sharp details and spot-on exposure.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hallo Greg,
pretty good capture of this Calopteryx. The complex wing venation and the thorny legs are clearly presented against the vivid green background.

Hello Greg,
Exquisite damselfly with sharp details.
The black lacy wings and body is a striking contrast to the bright green leaf BG. The sharp details showing the hairs on the legs and the designs on the wings are stunning.
TFS. : )

Greg,

Excellent detail in your pic. The BG, DOF, POV and Lighting are very well captured. TFS,
Sheriff

A lovely shot, the contrast between green and black is very bold.
