Cool Facts

The Common Tern drinks mainly on the wing, gliding with its wings slightly raised and dipping its bill several times into the water.

Common Terns living along the coast drink salt water. They do not seek fresh water even when it is available nearby. Like many seabirds, they have nasal glands that excrete the excess salt.

The incubating adult Common Tern flies off its nest to defecate 5–50 m (16-160 ft) away. It deposits its feces indiscriminately in nearby water or on the territories of other terns.

Great shot! Very good timed. Very sharp and clear details. Good DOF... just a beautifull picture, can`t say more

This is another great capture, Adam. I would really like to own your 400mm prime lens. I wish it was stabilized though. This shot is so sharp and the tern with its prize is a wonderful subject. I love the angle and crop you chose. With all that blue sky, your sensor sure looks clean!

Thanks for sharing

Bravo, Adam.
You sure nailed that one! WOW!
I am speechless.
What a sharp capture of this tern with his beakful.
Great timing... and I know how hard it is, because I see how fast these birds fly around.
The POV is just fantastic, with the full wingspan in view.
The light on his head is perfect. A masterpiece!

Hi Adam,
Saw this the other day but was out of :)'s so I had to come back and find it. I think this is excellent. Beautiful light and a spot on exposure. Great color and detail in the white plumage. Love the comp. and framing. I tried to shoot some of these guys while I was in Florida, but nothing this good! Great camera work here.
