Mammoth Hot Springs Lower Terraces
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a closeup of some of the travertine terraces in the Mammoth Hot Springs area of Yellowstone National Park. I think this is educational shot because it shows the terraces below and the source of the hot springs above. The fact that the travertine calcium carbonate on the bottom are bright white shows they are newly formed. The older ones, as in Minerva Terrace are more grey.
I shot this location in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I thought the light was best in the evening.

Hi Mike, well done on this exposure nightmare! All those whites in sun at 11 am!!! You did well. This kind of shot would be perfect for those overcast days.
It's a very interesting composition, well done.
Good capture Mike,
A bit rushed tonight, just time for a quick visit.
Well worth a big :)
Thanks for posting, have a great weekend.
Hello Mike, yes as Paul mentions this would be a nightmare for balance of exposure. I am not sure if this is the best composition to show this off, although I don't really known the lay of this site. If there is water in those basins then maybe if possible a higher POV to show them better. I would burn the mid-tones on the water to bring it up more. Well done.
Hi Mike,
a nice image of the travertine terraces, the photo has a good composition, DOF and beautiful colors. thanks for sharing.
