Hopefully this little loon learns his lesson well. Of the six nesting pairs I know of, he is the only surviving chick.
I have trouble photographing loons because their heads are blacker than black and their markings are pure white. If someone has a suggestion for camera settings I'd like to know.
I have tried the only enhancement techniques I know (Levels, Curves, Unsharp Mask) but didn't get a satisfactory result. So here is the photo as it came from the camera. |

Fantastic capture. There is not so much loons on TN. With fish and chick, it is very first class.
(obviously, rotating a little your camera to the left would have been better)
No tips for settings. I encounter this same difficulty myself too.
