Looks like a Hoary Marmot to me. Lovely pose I'm very fond of these creatures I spent about an hour up Whistlers Mountain in Jasper just watching them eat grass. Lovely colours and a good level of sharpness
Yep, a Hoary Marmot it is. I love these guys, they seem to live the ideal life, spend their summers in beautiful alpine meadows (dodging predators of course) and sleeping through the winter. Not so bad. Regarding the photo: I like it, the marmot's pose is really nice with the profile, sharp highlight in the eye and the texture in the fur along the back. The lighting is a bit harsh, mid-day I presume? But a nice photo none the less.

It looks like a Hoary Marmot to me. We have various Marmots here in BC and this one is similar to those found in the Rocky Mountain area near Banff and Jasper. These are really delightful creatures to watch and to photograph. Good photo, Paul! Hope that this helps.

A very cute pose of this marmot.
Lovely colors on his fur, sharp details, wonderful expression.
He looks very alert.
