one of perhaps 2,500, they are infected by parisites in domestic cat litter that is flushed down the drain

Nice capture.
Could you detail more what we see. I first thought the thing in the middle was a stone on his tummy (a habit of them). Then I saw whiskers on it and was wondering if it is the head of another one. Now, I would think it is the knee from the left leg. I guess that it is the right leg that was amputated and that we see on the left of the pic.
The feet could have been eaten by a rat while it was a new-born. Could that be too?

If there is room on that soapbox, I will join you. It really bothers me to see how much we are ruining the ecosystems with our pollution.
Anyway, great shot. I love how you get this shots of them in their natural environment and down at their level from your kayak.

Ouch!
I would think it's human feces not kitty litter would be infecting any injury. I think kitty litter would plug up the plumbing. I know of a few city's where human waste is pumped right into the ocean....perhaps it should be diverted right back into peoples yards...perhaps then they would think otherwise. Blah Blah Blah.
