[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Carolina Chickadee, (Parus carolinensis). This tiny acrobatic bird flits quickly from tree to tree, often hanging upside-down to probe for beetles or caterpillars concealed in the bark. Its small size, black cap & bib framing white cheeks clearly mark it as a chickadee. As if that were not enough, it cheerfully calls its name, chick-a-dee-dee-dee. Its range extends Kansas to New Jersey & south to Texas & Florida. At about 4 & 1/2 inches in length, the Carolina chickadee is slightly smaller than its northern counterpart (Parus atricapillus). The chickadee nests in a hole in a tree or stump, lining the cavity with grasses, feathers, fur & thistledown. The 6 to 8 eggs are speckled with reddish brown. The identically plumaged parents share in the incubation, & the eggs hatch in 11 to 12 days. Within two weeks the young are ready to leave the nest, already clearly marked as chickadees. The Carolina chickadee eats primarily insects & spiders but also consumes small berries & seeds... I used aperture priority, ISO 100, EV-.3, with external flash. NOTE: Current job demands are limiting the time I can give to participation at TN. I will post & critique as much as possible until things get caught up. Oh yeah, Hope you like it! ;-)

Excelent shot, Howard, I thought I might add the Northern cousin, Black capped. I like the surroundings. Excelent composition.

Welcome back, old friend. I missed your photos. This is one is very sharp. I might I say you have become quite a birder since the aquisition of the telephoto lens. You should not stop watching for those spiders though. :) Great shot, Howard. Well done.

You are getting me all worried when you stay away this long!

This guy is wearing slippers. The sharpness is very good and I like the composition. I have never see claws like these.

A latest Great New Year to you and your family and friends, Howard!
Good picture and note for this Chick-a-dee-dee-dee! I wonder what he has on paws? Never seen something similar here.
Thanks
Had a nice stay in California?

Good to see ya back here, Howard, and posting some birdies too. Nice one, and I see you also battle to catch up, I thought it was only me.
Now why don't you offer him some cream for those chapped feet?
