On Bastille Day this year I whiled a couple of days in the hills of Tennessee - somewhere between Knoxville and Nashville.
There I found this butterfly - let's call him Alf - in a bush while I was playing golf.
I am not at all an expert on butterflies, so I am not 100% sure, but Alf could be one of the swallowtail varieties of butterflies. Anyone?
In macro mode I got as close as I could and thought I'd picture the subject in an unusual angle, not with the wings spread out like you often see, but instead from above.
I believe the flash really washed out the leafy backdrop into a bright green colour, but that gives even better contrast to Alf's markings and details.
Can someone tell me what Alf's exact variety is? |

Hey... i think this is a swallowtail as well. Maybe should have tried a side profile to have a clearer pic on the wings?
