Denali. Ah, Denali ... What a park, what a thrill. There are only few places in the world which I would visit twice in my life, but Denali is on top of that list.

On this picture you can also see the park road winding through the rough terrain. Two hikers on the road are dwarfed by Mt McKinley. The park road is 92 miles long and the only road in a wilderness consisting of a whopping 6 million acres of Interior Alaska.

Denali features the highest peak in Northern America; Mt McKinley (locals still call it Mt Denali).
And because I believe in the saying: "what you see is what you get", Mt McKinley is actually higher than Mt Everest!

At 20,320 ft the peak of 'The Great One' is almost 4 miles high, but what makes it stunning is that it rises with an elevation of just 2,000 ft. From the Park road you'll see 18,000 ft of rock, snow and glacier reaching for the sky. In contrast Mt Everest, the world's highest mountain at 29,028 ft, rises only 11,000 ft from the lofty Tibetan Plateau.

Mt Mckinley is not visible for the first 15 miles from the park entrance and is covered in clouds two out of every three days. We were lucky to see it uncovered.

Did I already tell you that if you need a reason to go to Alaska, Denali is it? Well, words really can't decribe how fantastic this place is. With three times the size of Yellowstone this park boasts an enormous number of wild animals.

Hoi Pieter,
Groeten,
Niek

Wooow ! Impressive landscape as I love. This mountain is bigger than mine ;-) Your excellent shot is a pleasure for eyes. Perhaps less sky for composition. The note is interesting too.
Congratulations Pieter and Sandra for this trip and thanks for sharing with us.

Hi Pieter

Splendid landscape! Really well done!
Very beautiful colors, nice details throughout, very good lighting and a great composition.

Bravo and TFS

Not only looking at this wonderful shot, but reading you perfect note I had a great time with this one.
The view is impressing and well managed, the info most interesting, and the reading and title got my attention from the first sight. And excellent work! TFS my friend.

Hi Pieter,
The majestic mountain beautifully captured!
I like the natural framing by the diagonals leading my eyes, and something that looks like low hovering clouds add to the mystery...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Peter,
Lovely shot of this rough terrain, with the distant peaks majesty well seen :) I like that flat band of interesting cloud that partially shrouds "the great one" as well. Very Well composed also Pieter.
I did a quick WS to try & enhance the color a bit, hope you don't mind ;)
Very well done.

Hi Pieter,
I was in the Himalayas last year and trekked up to Mount Chomolhari (7314m) on the Bhutan/Tibet border. I get a real sense of something spiritual and pure looking at mountains, as I do with this. A beautiful shot showing the expanse of natural land there. Nice clear shot with good detail and exposure. I like the band of cloud across the mountain, gives a good idea of the elevation here. What a place, I'm planning on going to Alaska next Spring so this will be on my list. Thanks for sharing this beautiful sight :-)
Cheers,
Adrian

Hello Pieter, I love this scene with the road running through this terrain. I think the people there gives it all scale. The three levels to this are all different. I really love this place I shall visit one day for sure. My only critique on this fine composition would be to have slightly less sky. Very well done.

Hi Pieter,
Superb landscape composition! What a view. Great clarity and sense of depth to this shot! Detail and colors look so nice. I just wish I was there. A very nice one!
scott

Hi Pieter
It looks magnificent, and these 800 pixels don't do it justice, I am sure. Those 2 hiker's have got quite a walk ahead!
I'm confused by your EXIF data for 2 reasons:
1. It says 153mm which isn't possible on a 28-135. Typo?
2. Why didn't you use the Sigma which would surely give you better quality at that focal length?

Your were amazingly lucky to see it above the clouds, Pieter! What a fantastic capture, I am so envious. I'm American and I've never set foot in Alaska, too busy going to Europe.

Great compo and POV. Well seen!

Hi, Pieter.
Very nice landscape and excellent composition. Good DOF.

Hi Pieter,
Excellent image! It also somehow gives me the impression that Bev Doolittle(famous artist) was inspired by such a fantastic scene. Well done. :)

I believe this area is called Polychrome pass.
There is no public access here except on foot or in a Park bus.

Denali is the native alaskan name.

Hallo Pieter,
Zeer mooie en verzorgde foto.
Foto bestaat een beetje uit een onderste en bovenste gedeelte. Het bovenste bestaat dan weer uit de witte bergen en de lichtblauw lucht. Maar vergeet de woorden...
Effen meegenieten..:-)
Bedankt
