[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'm not even gonna attempt to ID this bee, even though it's pretty common where I live. Let me have a split second glimpse at a 2002 Ford Escape and I can tell you whether it's an XLS or XLT model. Let me hear the sound of the starter outside and I can tell you if it's my next door neighbor's Acura Integra or his wife's Toyota Corolla. It's what I'm good at, because I work in automotive business. But if I look in the Field Guide to Insects and Spiders for a bee like the one in the picture and see that Mining Bee which looks pretty similar has some brighter hair on its head anyway, I give up. To me it doesn't really matter how it's called. It's an interesting insect on a pretty flower. I saw it in the morning in front of my house, it was still sleepy enough to let me set up the tripod and take some shots. By the time I was leaving for work it was all dry and gone.

Hello Mark,
No idea of the ID myself but it's great macro shot. Great detail and textures and beautiful light and colours. Good DOF and I think a good POV to include the darker area at the top of the frame. Absolutely no sign of flash artifacts, a great piece of work.

Hello Mark,
Really it's a great bee and flower, it's superbly taken also. Great dof with your settings and still has a wonderful plain bg too! i like its carpet like hairs and the shiny black eye. For the identification, it looks like a kind of bumble bee but i'm not sure and i know that the hairy bees or beetle's are hard subjects to take photos beautifully. You did a great job here, wonderful composition.

Superb colour and contrast in this photo.It is a super macro.The DOF and POV are excellent. A wonderful range of orange and red colours and hues.It really makes a great BG for your bee.TFS
