Somehow this mistake I made with the -1EV seems to haunt me. I've tried so hard to get some color and light back into the photos that I made that day, but somehow I've seem to have lost my touch. Eventhough that they was a partial cloudy day, it realy looks like heavy overcast.

So what do you see. This is where the Sun River Wildlife Management area start. In the distance you see the first mountains of the Rockies and in the front you see the Montana Prairie.

Wildlife Management Area goal: To maintain and improve habitat diversity and quality for elk and other species currently utilizing the Wildlife Management Area and to provide hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities. Not the whole area is a hunting area, since one range has recently been bought by a very Rich Californian family and they do not allow hunting on their grounds. We did not see any Elk that day, but did see a lot of cattle.

Tech Talk: Shot in RAW -1EV correction on brightness, white balance and contrast. Converted to JPEG, stumbled around with colors and light, USM, frame and resized.

Hello Niek,
I like the composition in layers, simple but very attractive as an image of peace & quiet!
Interesting details and muted colours that seems to fit this scenery...
Well framed with good lines!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Niek,
Beautiful scenery. The composition looks excellent. I agree with you about the colors. Are you sure you do not have something else changed in your setting by accident? -1EV should easily be correctable in RAW. Great sense of depth here.

Well this picture sort of lost it's drama didn't it? There obviously was something there that prompted you to take the picture. It still evokes a great sense of space. Oddly enough I had several images turn out dull just like this. I don't think it is necessarily the -1 comp but I sure am no expert there. Someone told me it was the combination of filters I was using??? Don't know... : /

I tried to work with it just as a challenge. I've been working with plenty of my own! Of course not having personally seen the vista and not being the photographer, it is kind of guess work. Also working on an image that has already had quite a bit of pp work always degrades resolution.

Bonjour Niek
C'est une excellente prise de vue avec ce beau paysage ! belles couleurs, bon contraste entre le foncé et la pâleur des montagnes. Merci pour le partage .
bravo et au revoir...JP

It does look like a shot with great potential here Niek, but I'll also agree that the photo overall seems a bit on the flat side. I like the FG green-yellowish hues of the field combined with the BG foothills, and the small lake and trees add a nice touch.

I like it, Beautiful mountains, the river in the forground..which those trees in front make you realize just how big a location you just shot.. Great perspective..TFS

Hello Niek,
Well many times you just have to learn the hard way..through disapointment. I don't know how many otherwise good shots I've lost due to lighting problems :(
Overall a good composition,
Well done & TFS!

Hello Niek,

Evelyn did a good workshop of this picture. On the other hand, the composition of this picture is nice, the small trees and the pond in the foreground and also wath seems to be a fence in the field and the rocks here and there.

Nice Picture !
