Good Evening

Well another weekend draws close and I am ready! I have got to get out before I go stir crazy. Suppose to rain all day Friday but Saturday is suppose to be good, so hoping to head out to the Nature Reserve. The only thing in my yard to shoot at the present is Woodpeckers, so that is what I am posting. I have shot so many of these guys I am starting to name them, this one is named Peter, just seemed appropriate. So keep your fingers crossed and hopefully I will have something new for you all on Saturday, if not I might be forced to do landscapes… Have a great weekend and see you out on the site.

Greg

My setup when shooting:

1. This was shot at high noon, around 12:00 pm. Skies were clear and it was cold.
2. I used a tripod.
3. Setup the branch, loaded peanut butter and seed on the backside.
4. Used the Nikon 70-200mm lens with 1.7 TC for 340mm range, turned off the VR.
5. Went inside my new smaller hide, this one is less intrusive.
7. Kept adjusting the Shutter Speed and Aperture to compensate.

Por este lado del mundo buenos días.
Como siempre un lujo tus fotos, felicitarte y mi admiración por tu trabajo TFS, saludos Victor

Well Greg, Peter is very attractive. However there are two point I'd like to raise;
1. I had to travel 8,000km to see my 1st woodpecker in Singapore (don't get them in Oz)
2. I live in a unit (appartment)in a city, so I don't have a yard. The common birds that I see regular are house sparrow, blackbird, rock dove and spotted turtle dove. Though I do get rainbow lorikeets every now an then.
The point is, appreciate what you have. I'm sure there are many other TN's in the same situation.
Anyway its a good shot, have you tried getting a portrait or of them drilling a hole?
cheers
Chris

Hi Greg,
For a shot at high noon, you certainly must have some well shaded area to shoot. The light here is soft and beautiful. Amazing colors and detail in the plumage. As usual, your comp. and framing look great. Great OOF backround.

great shot. very well cpmposed. great colors, focus on subject, details. tfs

Hi Greg,
Another great woodpecker shot. Great texture and detail on the tree trunk. Moist wood always looks better than the dry stuff. I find this shot a tad under-exposed however.

Hi Greg

Another splendid shot of this very beautiful woodpecker!
This time a different POV, one that gives us the chance to see the back of this cute bird - i really like that small red spot from the back of its head...it gives a very nice contrast with all the other feathers.
The rest...is impecable again, just like all your other posts :)

Cheers and have a great weekend!
Horia

Hi Gregory,
it's such a wonderful woodpacker - I love all the spots on the feathers.
Also excellent sharpness - I wonder how you came so close.
I enjoyed looking, thanks and greetings

Gregory, another trademark shot: excellent bg, great composition, sharpness and saturation.

I like your notes too. They have both a personal touch and supply useful technical information.

Well done.

Gregory,
As I just said...no problem in this portfolio!
Nice portrait of Peter. I think he's a real pro...doing the catwalk and stuff!
