Hi Everyone

Hope all the last minute shopping is done and everyone is ready for the big day! You never know there might be a lens under the tree for you... Seasons greetings from my family to yours!

Greg

Tuft Titmouse

Titmice are social birds and, especially in winter, join with small mixed flocks of chickadees, nuthatches, kinglets, creepers, and the smaller woodpeckers. Although a frequent visitor at feeders, the titmouse is not as tame or confiding as a chickadee. It often clings to the bark of trees and turns upside down to pick spiders and insects from the underside of a twig or leaf. The Black-crested Titmouse, found from southwestern Oklahoma and northern Texas south into Mexico, was until recently considered a subspecies of Tufted Titmouse.

My setup when shooting:

1. This was shot at early afternoon, around 2:30 pm. Skies were clear, some clouds and it was cool.
2. Taken from inside the car, free hand.
3. This was taken at a State Park. Sprinkled seed along the forest edge close to some wild grape vines.
4. Used the Nikon 70-200mm VR with 1.7x TC
5. Car was parked about 20 feet from intended shooting area.
6. Shot in Manual Mode, kept adjusting the Shutter Speed and Aperture to compensate for the alternating light patterns coming through the trees and the open area.
7. My intention was to get a shot of birds landing on the grape vine above where I sprinkled the seed.

Fine, clear capture!

Hi Gregory,
A presentation so artistic here...
First thing that catch my attention is the background, that degrade is so pleasant to look at. It seems to be airbrushed!
The bird´s pose is so good, details on feathers are excellent.
The composition is outstanding, with the branch leaving just in the right down corner.
Congratulations, thanks to post and for the note, and wish you happy holidays!,
JM

Hi Greg,
High quality shot as usual. Just love that BG which contrasts so nicely against the tack sharp bird and branch detail. Excellent colour and composition, the placement of the bird against the three bands of colour in the BG is awesome.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Greg

Another wonderful shot from you!
This is, again, fantastic! What a formidable sharpness for a handheld 1/100 at that focal lenght...wow!
Also, i really love the DOF which isolated the bird very beautifully from the charming BG, the exposure is spot-on and the colors are lovely everywhere.
I wish all the best to you and your family, too and hope you indeed find a nice lens under the tree :))

Bravo, TFS and Happy Holidays!

Hi Greg, this is an excellent capture of this pretty little bird. So clear to see, and I love the POV, well done,

Great image, Gregory, perfect in every respect. I particularly like the three distinct shades of color in the BG which play a significant role in adding to the beauty of the subject.
Merry Christmas!

Hi Gregory

A very beautiful shot, wonderful composition and pose, the POV is a big favourite of mine as I like to see the Wings tucked yo behind the Bird, nice sharp details and wonderful colours too.

Merry Christmas
Hilary :o)

Hi Gregory,
Very good image indeed..
Excellent sharpness...
I don't know but sometimes I do have the feeling that Nikon delivers another kind of sharpness than Canon.; probably it is just the way things are postprocessed
...I wonder what postprocessing workflow you apply?
Wish you a big lens under the tree!:-)

A very sharp and clean portrait. Well exposed and well composed. Maybe a little oversharpened, but not too bad.

Regards,
Pieter

Great shot Greg.
Well composed and good sharpness, even if a few feathers are out of place :)
Excellent contrast with OOF background.
Mery Christmas
