Tuckerman's Ravine
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Tuckerman Ravine, situated on the southeast shoulder of Mt. Washington, is famous for its spectacular scenery, deep snow, and challenging hiking and skiing terrain. This glacial cirque, with its bowl-like form, collects snow blowing off of the mountain. Snow averages about 16m (55') in the deepest spot, providing a unique late spring skiing opportunity when many parts of the eastern United States are without snow. Unfortunately there is a strong chance that practically no skiing will be done this year because of the lack of snow (presently less than 1m).
I took this picture near the shelter at the base of the ravine after a hike of about 2 hours. Used a blue grad filter to balance the exposure and have a deeper blue sky.

Looks a bit windy up there too. I seem to recall that Mt. Washington is notorious for strong storms and high winds. Just curious about your EXIF data; F29 and 1/30th of a second?
Hi Patrick ,
nice scenery and well composition.
great sharpness and nice light.
well done.
thanks and regards
Saeed
Hi Patrick,
A great shot with a very interesting view up the hill. I like the fact that you can see the wind blowing away the snow. I think you have a slight red color cast in some parts of the photo.

Niek

Hi Patrick,
another beautiful shot. I love the contrast between that blue sky and the wild looking foreground, it's very similiar looking to the upland parts UK. Great work on the exposure too.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Patrick,
I was up there in 94 in a dreary day. That is indeed an unusual view of the ravine in winter. Hope you'll eventually get some white stuff. I like the blue sky.
Best wishes,
Hakan
