[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Following Bob Airhart's suggestions -- I revisited this early post to see what might be possible with better cropping and sharpening. Let me know what you think. Adjustments were made in The Gimp, with a little unsharp mask to help out.

I was able to view this sandhill from quite a far distance on a mild, early Spring day in May, at our local nature preserve. This section of the preserve isn't often visited -- the grass reaches very high even that early on. I was first attracted by the distinctive call of the crane, and it was interesting to see the bird assert its territory. Other birds nearby backed off whenever it approached. I was flat on the ground, shooting across the pond to get this image.

Hi Jim,
this version of the crane is now in better context than your first post of it.It sure is a tall bird and having more of the area around it really gives a better sense of how large it is.The focus is somewhat soft but I do like it.I think I'll The Gimp software you told me about. Bob

I've not seen the first post but in this one the composition works well. Lovely POV and good colors. Well done.

Hi Jim,
thanks for visiting my kingfisher shot. Really appreciate your note and commnet. From there I realise how much you understand getting bird shot. Very difficult and very hard, the skills, the lighting and it really exhaust me with patience and strength. im touched by your undestanding.
As for yours, it is one of the loveliest Ive seen as the graphical impact on visuals by the grasses is so prominent. the elgeance of the walking bird is so obvious. Full of stance and pleasant pose.
Very well composed shot and you have shot it at the right moment.
