I'm going to post some gull pictures over the next few days, partly because I have so many, and partly to show a variety of "poses". Most of these pictures, including this one, were taken on board one of the Steamship Authority's ferries, traveling between Woods Hole, MA and Martha's Vineyard, an island seven miles off the coast of Cape Cod, MA (the movie "Jaws" and scenes in the movie "Sabrina" were filmed there. This trip I was coming back to the mainland from the island.
The day I took this shot, the gulls were especially active. Kids were standing on the deck throwing all kinds of food to them, so they were flocking in force. I caught this shot as one of them swooped in to snatch something in mid air, mouth open, ready for the grab. It's not the most flattering picture, but it definitely shows the gull's intensity.
Here's the first gull shot I posted on TrekNature.
And here's a side view of another gull.
I adjusted the levels slightly in Photoshop, and sharpened it before reducing the image dimensions and saving it. |
