This is the famous Upper Antelope Canyon in Arizona. It is located in Navajo land and it is sacred to the Navajo nation. The walls are not as high as those in Buckskin Gulch (previous image), and direct sun light comes through the small crack above around high noon. When I walked in, the canyon entrance was flooded with photographers (mostly from a workshop) who were fighting over tripod space. I sat in front with my little Gitzo in an uncomfortable position and fired away. Precise framing was impossible. It was actually a 16-sec exposure on Velvia. The beam you see is light reflecting off tiny sand particles in the air. Sand was literally raining down, and I had to change film in a plastic bag. I had to shower three times to get rid of the sand in my hair, and there is still some in my camera bag after all this time. The slot canyon eventually becomes so narrow that only one person at a time can pass. On that day, towards the other end of the canyon, a French lady started singing an aria as a tribute to the glory of color and light. As her beautiful voice echoed off the walls and filled the canyon, the place became all the more magical. This is now a too well-known and too accessible canyon, and the originality is somewhat lost.

Hi Hakan

This is another outstanding shot from you from what seems to be a simply breathtaking place!
The composition here is just amazing and the colors and and slow transition from the light in the center to the darker areas on the sides is just terrific!
The fact that you can see through this beem of light and into the depth of the cave (canyon) is fantastic, too, giving exceptional perspective to the picture.
Very god sharpes on the details and textures all-over, too.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

This is a very cool shot Hakan! Such a pity that so many people know about this spot now.

Hello Hakan!
Great POV! I really like the "stream of light" in the centre of this picture! Colours of rocks are really amazing, and their structure is well seen.
On the other hand maybe it would be good to show a darker version in the workshop? :)
Best greetings and TFS!
Radomir

That simply looks unreal! Great details and excellent exposition to bring out the entire beauty of this place. I also like the delicate patterns on the rocks.

It is a special place. I agree that it has become "too" special. I really prefer the smaller slot canyons that my husband and I have explored all alone. The colors and lines are amazing though.

A stunning capture under such difficult circumstances. I am willing to bet that no-one else in that canyon that day got so grand a shot!
Fabulous colours and textures, and the PoV that leads us down and down and down is truly phenomenal

Hello Hakan,
You really have wonderful and very original pictures and this one is just amazing. It looks like coming from a Tolkien's story or something. I think that you are very lucky to have seen such places in your life :) Those colors, lightning, POV, composition and exposure are very impressive. I love the texture and the pattern on the rocks. This ray of light looks like there is magical in the air :) This is very well done and TFS,
Claudine

What a great exposure 15 sec! Must be waited long and hoping no one pass thru.

Wow......are only words to describe this pic. What a captured. It reminded me the film 'Evolution'.THe light stream is perfectly captured. Its a well exposed shot. The curves on the canyon are well capured with all details. I like the color too. Well DOne

Hello Hakan,
This image goes back by ten years, so apparently it is a scan.
And it is a superb scan, in the first place.
I guess you are right about this place turning common; I remember some free pictures I got when I joined Webshots some years ago and a shot from this canyon was one of them, if I am not mistaken.
Despite cramped space and other limitations, you have captured this picture very well. That shaft of light does look like an illustration from a book of mysteries, but its impact on the viewer is very strong.
It is, however, the rocks sculptured by nature that fascinate me the most.
Thanks for sharing this great image.

Hi Hakan.

Oh wow! This is spectacular and to me is very original even if location is not so any more. I love how you have captured that splendid beam of light so well, I first thought it was a waterfall.
It seems a very magical place and the detail is very evident. Really terrific stuff, I'm very impressed!

Hi Hakan,
This is beautiful. I've been wating to go to Antelope Canyon for a long time and this is just more reason for me to go. It's really like something from Raiders of the Lost Ark! Beautiful colours, great exposure given the bright light. A wonderful shot.

Hi Hakan,
This is an impressive image. The ray of light quite amazing as is the fact that nobody bothered you during such a long exposure. The texture of the surrounding walls is very good as is the puddle of light on the floor.

Hi Hakan,

Your pictures make me homesick, none more than this. The very full beam (time of year?), generous exposure and glowing tumbleweed make this image stand out. I was last in this neighborhood about this time. Hope I wasn't one of those jostling photographers behind you! :)

This looks almost holy! Great composition and a wonderful feeling of something sacred.

Hi Hakan. This is a real classic. Well timed to get the ray of sun as you have it.Suitable for National Geographic. Congratulations. Murray.

A very special place... A pity the overcrowded atmosphere that you comment. A curious detail the plant near the beam of light, probably a quiet and wetter place than the surface. The illumination of background showing the whole path full of holes in the "roof" is great. The textures reminds the more known rocks in Petra. Very good.
