I thought I would post one more frozen Silver Falls image before we leave on a short 10 day vacation. Then I can start a new theme on my return. And surely these freezing winter days will be just a memory by then!

Silver Falls Park is in the heart of a rain forest. Throughout the year it is green, and lush, and mossy and overgrown. However, on a few frozen winter days the park is magically transformed. Therefore the title, "Winter's Magic". On those days simpler compositions with a minimal palette of colors present themselves. I love it.

bonjour evelynn
c'est un bel essai que cette cascade mais avez vous essayé une vitesse plus lente et un diaphragme plus fermé pour donner plus d'effet a la chute d'eau.

Hi Evelynn,
Great image from this "ice" series.
It's amazing the lack of color winter can do, and discover the beauty of the almost two tone pictures.
You did a great composition here, with that imponent fall and the surrounding elements.
I'm a little confused with the proportions here...as the leafless trees in the foreground gives me an idea of the size, then it seems the fall to be so far away...
Are pines the snow formations behind the fall?
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
Best regards and happy vacations!,
JM

Bonjour,
Belle fontaine naturelle.
Bonne journée.

Hi Evelynn,

Wow what a fantastic place! Very effective shot, I like the composition and fact there is no horizon, and the almost monochrome effect really works and adds to the VERY chilly feel of this one!

Nature at it's best - beautiful.

TFS, Doug

Hi Evelynn,
I was waiting on one of these kind of photos since I found those from last winter spectacular. The wonderful shapes of ice created by the continues force of the water are just wonderful to look at. The almost square clear area of water is very interesting too look at, since one would expect it to be round. The silky look of the water, which you normally do not want to capture, is perfect with this shot, since it contradicts with the harshness of the temperature.
TFS,
Niek

A breathtaking scene, Evelynn.
I love all the textures, beautifully brought out by the monochromatic palette of this photo. As you manage to do so often, there is a wonderful sense of magic and mystery
in the mood of this picture.
Can't wait to see your next series.
TFS. : )

great shot, the b&w feel to the shot is great. The longer exposure on the water is excellent.

Now I have seen it on a better screen, it is even better. the colour control is excellent, as is the exposure, sharpness and DOF. You're right about the magic of winter - it is my favourite season, there is something in winter pictures that is not found at any other time of year.

TFS
Emma

This is very cool Evelynn! You've captured the power and majesty of the waterfall here and the surrounding ice. No hints as to where you're heading off on vacation?

Hi Evelynn and sorry for the delay

This is truely a fantastic shot!
I think i like this one the best of all the "frozen" series!
I don't even know where to begin...
The waterfall itself is terrific and the spashed water on the impact also creates a splendid effect (in contrast with the very dark blue of the lower water).
The ice on the vertical walls is fantastic and it sort-of frames the entire composition.
Last but not least the ice on the river is terrific and the fact that it only begins from a few meters from the fall is just great - allowing that amazing dark space between them. (hope i'm making any sense).
Anyway...it deserves all the applause!!!

BRAVO and TFS
Horia

Hola Evelyn,
Me gusta mucho la composición, es muy original y bella. Un cordial saludo

Hi Evelynn,

I was very busy lately but I take this moment to comment your picture.

Like this close-up of the base of the waterfall. The snow is well balanced and the fall blends with the surroundings. Your DOF is clear and sharp.

Hi Evelynn,
this photo is something I would sure love to see with my own eyes,it looks so very dream like to me,and peaceful. The name of this waterfall is so right.Even though the picture is in colour it looks almost like an old time platinum print. This picture is crisp like the season's weather usually is and the point of view is simply great.I got to get myself stateside and see some of Americas best, thank you for this one. Bob

You seem to have saved the best for last, Evelynn. Nice, balanced composition with the falls, silhouettes, all well-placed. Perhaps a bit underexposed but it's a matter of taste in this case. Well done. But, f/2.8? Tripod please :).
Regards,
Hakan

Fantastic Silver Fall, incredible ice forms. Nice composition and very interesting places. Best regards, Cezar.

Hey Evelynn,
Very cool picture. The composition is great with the small bushes in the front. It gives the image more perspective. The image itself is truely spectacular! The water falling combined with the ice really makes for a unique shot! TFS!
