Seagulls in a tug-of-war over a piece of bread, Thorndale Beach, Chicago, IL.

These are most probably, ring-billed gulls (Larus delawarensis) because of the complete black ring on their bills and also because of their yellow legs.

These birds are what they call 'adult alternates' distinguished by their white heads, necks, breasts and bellies, pale gray backs and upperwings, white tertial crescents and black primaries with white tips and two white mirrors on outer primaries (the wing feathers) and white tails. Juvenile forms have other colors.

From Nature Works: "In North America, the ring-billed gull breeds in the Northwest from the prairies of Canada to California. It is also found in the Great Lakes region, the Canadian Maritimes, and northern New England. It winters from southern New England south to Cuba, from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, and from British Columbia to Mexico.

The ring-billed gull makes its home on lakes and rivers. It may move to the ocean in the winter."

This was taken at Thorndale Beach on Lake Michigan in Chicago. People feed the birds every afternoon, I was lucky to be there when the birds were fed last Sunday.

Always beating for food. Excellent shot with beautiful colours.

Really good focus and light mainly on the bread and two front gulls..
It's too bad that people feed these gulls, they are really a menace to the environment...
I do think they are nice birds but should not be encourated to settle in urban environment.
