As I promised Bob Shannon, I have returned to another of the landscape shots taken on one of those days when I went to a music gig and was distracted by the beauty of the outdoors first :D
What can I say? My fiancé is a part-time professional musician and I attend ALL his concerts, but when Mother Nature winks at me as she did here, I tend to take notice.

The Grand River flows 300 kilometres through southwestern Ontario from the highlands of Dufferin County to Port Maitland on Lake Erie. The area that affects and is affected by the Grand River includes 38 municipalities and 925,000 residents and there was therefore a time when the water in this river had become badly polluted: solely a channel for human and industrial wastes.

The first major changes came about when the settlers of the 19th century stripped the land of its forest cover and filled or drained most of the wetlands. The result was that the water table dropped, springs dried up and floods (unhindered by trees and shrubbery on the slopes) became more frequent and far more severe. And then came the industries that were built alongside the river, taking advantage of the free power to run their equipment and the free waste channel.

In the past decade or so, great efforts have been made to restore some of the forests on non-urbanized land and to protect the remaining wetlands. Just south of where this shot was taken, the waters are being treated as “exceptional” because the river there is a good habitat for bass, walleye, pike, trout and the endangered redhorse. I hope to get down into that area with a camera early next year because it looks super! If there are other TN members interested in a Trek Meet here, I will be glad to join!

Tech: composed in camera (and waited for the clouds to be in the right places :D), shot in RAW, converted, resized, sharpened edges, framed and signed

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day

Hi Sike,

Presented well also.

Well composed.

Hi Silke,
well to me this is more of a John Constable in my opinion ;o) Wonderfully composed and a classic landscape, beautiful in it's simplicity.
Paul

You really show off your eye and the ability of the Nikon to capture this scene. The way in which you composed it through the viewfinder sticks right out. A good job from the get go means not too much playing with the image later on.
The full saturation of the sky with contrasting clouds is super. And the subtle changes in similar colors, such as different greens, blue greens and almost silver greens against the sky, river and full autumn tree makes for a full scope image!

I like this wonderful landscape. Composition is great, color is nice. Amazing POV and beautiful sky above the river.

Hi Silke,
Outstanding landscape!
It's so good your POV and the way you managed to compose this exquisite composition.
It seems like if the yellow tree was seeded there for this picture, its just at the center of interest and looks great.
A beautiful clouded sky and perfect colour saturation enhances even more this shot.
My compliments and thanks for share it.
Best regards,
JM

Hi Silke,

A beautiful river scene with wonderful colors. The composition is superb. The eye follows the water around the bend. I love the one tall tree on the side. Beautiful green bushes and a lovely sky.

Hello Silke,
I missed this superb shot of the Grand River. Great diagonal composition, the Fg being dominated by the aspen in autumnal colours, while the puffy clouds comptete with the similarly shaped willows on the far bank of the river.
Great landscape!
Well done, thanks and enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Ivan

Hi Silke,
strikingly well composed river landscape under a marvellously blue, nicely cloded sky with very rich details, wonderful transparent colours, great atmospheric beauty, looking very clean and unspoilt.
Thank you! My best regards,
