For Pablo and Adam! I know many thank them for allowing a 300K sized image now. So I dedicate this image to Pablo....and of course it is Adams software which runs these sites. Not sure if anyone has dedicated an image to Adam, but for what it is worth. As in many fields, there are hundreds and perhaps thousands of computer programmers in the world. Not to many have written software which has made them any money on an individual basis. Back in 1982 I wrote one of the, if not the very first bulletin board software programs for the Commodore Vic 20. I was very surprised to start getting calls for copies of it...for the first time computers could now share information back and forth. Now the dates of such things were argued extensively in Wiki...but finally the argument was settled. My name remains in Wiki although not entirely complete...I leave it alone for fear of more disagreement. I ended up selling thousands of the programs worldwide...what fun!

And so it is with the House Sparrow...There are millions of them and a few thousand live right here in Cheney Washington. And a hundred or so beat their wings to my feeder every day. I think the bird feed budget is now higher than my food budget. This image was taken through the back door window...while the bird was staring in. How inquisitive this one was and not afraid of me either. And then I looked at the feeder and noticed it was empty. do birds possibly know how to truly share information? I don't know but I filled it...so here we have a House Sparrow...also called an English Sparrow...according to some references..

I agree with your dedications, Bob.
The image that marks this tribute is a great close-up with fine sharpness and detail of this male House Sparrow and this is what the 300K is aimed for!
Thanks for sharing this,
Have a good Sunday,
Ivan

Hi Bob,

Wow - this is really close-up. I love the eye and the opened beak. Not only do these sparrows seem to know how to communicate with us but they have an uncanny sixth sense that tells them when an empty feeder has been filled.

Jane

Love the portrait and the framing. Excellent details of the facial features. Like you, I also have them beating wings to my feeder. A wonderful dedication - and thank you to them. My thanks bounce off of yours.

This is a stunning capture and the sentiment to which it is posted is admirable.

Hello Bob,
What a splendid close-up of this Sparrow. It's a species that's declining in Europe and we only have couple in the garden while lots of Tree Sparrows. I like the sharp focus on the eye and the smart bib! Beautiful colours too.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Interesting dedication.

Hi Bob,
I will be honest with you, I don't really like those birds (and I don't like to say that) but they are living creatures that deserve my respect :) I can say though that this is a nice capture of this male. I like the way you composed the picture, details, tones of colors and eye contact. Your notes are also interesting. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Bob,

Just marking today, will be back...

Pekka

Hello Bob,
Now I know that we have 300K for the upload without bringing down the image size and losing pixel to fit 200k, also like to thanks Adam for the opportunity in future!
many thanks for sharing this beautiful closeup of the Sparrow with a beautiful lighting, sharpness, good colour and details
best regards
Tony

Nice portrait Bob,
Good details at the head/eye/beak, nice POV and catchlight..
The only minus IMHO is the bit of over-exposure right side, and the comp/crop is a bit tight up top for my taste.
TFS,
Howard
PS - Good to know they've + the file size. In all honesty, I don't believe it will make a noticeable difference at 800 pixels.
We'll see :)

Great closeup John,
I guess you never appreciate how beautiful a common sparrow really is, until you take the time to look one straight in the eye. You did a fine job of capturing this little guy for all to enjoy! TFS.

Hi Bob

Great close-up of this cheeky sparrow. You have caught the essence of the species here! Until recently there were hundreds of these arounh here - there would be at least 5 nests in the soffits of my house - but these has been a total collapse in numbers (I suspect pestices), now the sites are occupied by starlings (2 nests) but they have similar problems.

James

PS I hadn't noticed about the file size - thanks!

Thank, Bob,
A fluffy little fellow, so well captured and I can see he is happy too! For the future his pictures can be published with even better details for his fans to enjoy...
But frankly, if anyone should have an image dedicated isn't that the guy who pushed this matter through? Just asking...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Namastay Bob,
Thanks a lot for liking the dedication. I have decided to post all my own innovative shots to you and shells and sea creature related shot to Mehmet and so on. And you are absolutely right here and made a good thing to dedicate this to the creators of this wonderful site. I am also going to dedicate something to them. Please don't mind for stealing your idea ;>. A nice capture of this beautiful sparrow. Sharp details and a lovely portrait. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP
