The West Plains are where the Palouse Grasslands meet the Eastern Washington Prairie. They are called 'West' because they are the furthest west in the County of Spokane. Spokane itself was the name of the Native American Tribes who lived on these plains. They were close relatives to the Nez Perce who also shared some of these as hunting grounds. Coyote are the mainstay of the mammals. Raptors are the ones who dominate the sky above. A few rattlesnakes from time to time. Every so often a cougar will wander this far onto the plains but it is rare. The moose is also seen but a bit more often as it lives not but 5 miles from here on the Turnbull Reservation..to the South. Th elands as a whole are shared by native grasses and farmers feed fields in a checkerboard style...but more like Chinese checkers because there are no true rectangular pieces, just odds and ends some looking more like circles.

A storm was coming in on this day, but blew over quickly, thus the gray clouds which dominated the sky. This image was taken with the Leica in HD mode, cropped and I did a bit of sharpening.

Hi Bob,

A wonderful landscape showing these wide open spaces. A scene that is quickly disappearing. The lighting is beautiful showing of the gold and green of the land. The grey sky with the thick clouds complete the sight perfectly.

Bonjour Bob, another painting from your camera with the looong line of grass underneath a menacing sky. You make me love those prairies and once more, the colours you manage to render are always as beautiful as can be. Thank you Bob, you share with us precious information and superb images,

Hi Bob!

This is the kind of landscape pictures I like very much. It's open and wide, the lines and patterns are soft, smooth and elegant. The grey sky is marvellous, remembers me what I saw this evening. I'm also pleased by the total absence of any human trace although we can look deep into these plains.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Bob

Lovely shot - I like the way you have emphasised the big sky - it really gives the viewer a sense of the scale of this landscape.

Beautiful image Bob,
Soft contrasting colours, nice lines and very clean landscape.
I can easily picture the Native Americans camped on one of these little rises. I wish places like this could remain open and uninhabited for our children to enjoy viewing for a long, long time.
Ron

Dear Bob,
This is great & all the more reason it is associated with history related to Native Americans. Coyote, raptors and rattlesnakes means adequate food supply (rodents) too. We do have plains, but smaller than USA kind. However it would be worthwhile to visit Rann of Kutch in India to see wide spread unique terrain; its flora & fauna. Your notes are very interesting & informative.TFS.

Hi Bob , here on the Alberta prairies one could look for some time for a scene with no power lines, fences, or factories to disturb it , I imagine the same holds true there :-) thanks for sharing this pleasant undisturbed scene.

Your notes gave me a thrill to read Bob - made me think of the old western movies - from way back in the 'olden days'. Pre 1960!!

I do like your composition with the sky taking most of the scenery, yet the land and colours still stand out so strongly.
Well done

Janice

Hi Bob,
I have been a bit under the weather lately, so please forgive me for late response to your kind words on my previous picture.
This is indeed a brilliant landscape image you have shared with us today.
The entire canvas here is an artistic composition strongly reminiscent of Vincent van Gough.
I love the combination of colors here.
Best regards,
Ram

Hello Bob! What a fine composition you've done there, I really like that patch of yellow against an almost purple sky, it's beautiful. Your exposure is perfectly done, thanks my friend!

Mario

Hi Bob,

The different types of lines are assets to the composition, also the the different tints of colors are complements to it. The point of view takes us toward the horizon which is giving depth to the picture. The quality of the luminosity brings out the colors. Have a nice day.
