Echinacea is perhaps the most important medicinal wildflower in existence. I am talking about herbs as opposed to those flowers and such which are grown for medicine or prescription. I say this for a couple of reasons....the fist and foremost for me alone, not for you, is that this was the truly first herbal I was given by a friend. He told me that it would help PREVENT colds. And it did. There is a common misconception that Echincea doesn't work because it doesn't RELIEVE colds. This is true. Once you already have a cold, I know of no herb that will relive it or make it go way perhaps better said.

Echinacea was discovered as a remedy in this country the USA buy the Native Americans who lived here for perhaps thousand of years before it was re-discovered by either Columbus or Erickson..depending.....It, or this example pictured here in my home town of Cheney grows wild over much of the North Central Plains of the United States. Exactly what it does? It strengthens your immune system. In this way when a virus (*a cold) comes along, your body is much better apt to fight off that virus. The immune system enhancements are proven by many clinical trials and research. Even all of this work has been done it still goes unrecognized by mainstream. Obviously drug companies would not like you to get sick. When you are sick, they make money by selling you medicines...and why do it if you do not have to? You too can have this in your tea. Proper usage is another matter but it is not toxic. you cannot get ill from use of this plant if you make sure this is what you are using.

The picture was taken not but 100 feet from my own front door. It is not a garden but on the edge of a person private property..you can see his grass and his border of rocks to prevent the weeds from growing in his domain! too bad he doesn't know:-(

Beautiful image Bob,
Love the compostion and the colours are breathtaking.
One of my favorite pictures here on TN is a collage of butterfly images, most of them sitting on this type of flower. I don't remember who actually took the photo but I have used it for my desk top image from time to time.
Very interesting notes! I had no idea this was used for medicinal purposes.
Ron

I love the texture displayed here, the composition, and the bright colors. I'm surprised you didn't manage to get a bumble bee on this one!

I find your notes interesting - it's always nice to know the herbal usages (anything to thwart the drug companies!) for plants and I've learned so much from you.

Keep posting and keep teaching!!

Hi Bob!

It's a good idea to present this wonderful medicinal flower. My family uses it regularly for different diseases, especially for flu and cold. And I don't agree with you that it doesn't relieve colds. My mother is 84 year old and she cures a cold with drops of the Echinacea...It's very effective. You are lucky to have it near your house! Did you try to do the drops by yourself?

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Bob,
This is a beautiful flower you're showing us today - it not only strengthens your immune system but it does attract a lot of insects too! :-) I've used it many times in the past and maybe that's why I haven't had a cold for years now!
A very nice composition and I like the drooping petals of the flower - here it is sometimes called 'Red Sunhat'. Great details and wonderful colours!
Many thanks and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Bob

Great shot - lovely detail on the main flower. I also like the way you show the way it grows in the less sharp BG - it works really well - though I bet that is why you did it.

Hello Bob!

Very nice portrait of beautifull flower. Interesting note also. This is for sure my favourite flower - it attracts many butterflies and other insects. Always :-)

Hello Bob,

I really love your pov and the excellent dof you have used.
This is one of my favourite flowers! I had a clump in the garden which, sadly, have not appeared this year. They are beautiful in their own right but I also found that they attracted butterflies as well as the buddlia. The butterflies that they attracted were always a little more unusual than the red admirals and the tortoise shells.
A fine presentation, my friend!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Bellissima composizione, eccellenti POV e DOF, mi piace molto questa prospettiva macro grandangolare, ottima definizione dei dettagli, splendidi colori e bellissima luce radente. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Namastay Bob,
A lovely capture of these beautiful medicinal flowers. They look so beautiful to eyes. Superb details and a lovely composition. BTW Dada (Da) = Bigbrother in Bengali (West Bengal) language and Dadaji=Grandfather in Hindi/Punjabi etc. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely

Simply beautiful! Good note too.

Hello Bob,
Thanks for a dedicated photograph on Echinacea and to heath of TN family (as well said "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"). Excellent sharpness, details & notes. TFS.

Bonjour Bob,

Hi Bob,

The close-up image of the flower is allowing us to see the deatils and colors of the echinacea. The flower in the foreground is clear and sharp, we can count the number of pics of the center of the flower. The luminosity has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre
