[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Viceroy butterfly, Limenitis archippus, a Monarch mimic, quite common but often not noticed due to its close resemblance to the Monarch. It's sipping nectar from the flowers of Rattlesnake Master, Eryngium yuccifolium, a fine prairie plant.

I took this yesterday morning while leading a walk for a chapter of the Audubon Society at a local prairie. As usual, I brought my camera and managed to snap a few shots while talking about the plants we were seeing, this one turned out decent (except for the wing-tip being out of frame), so I thought I'd share it here. I had the camera on a monopod for stability.

Beautiful image John,
Just goes to show you that you never know when a great shot might pop up in front of you. Composed very well with wonderful color and detail. Perfect exposure as seen in the lighter parts of the tiny bloom. I also Like the blurred BG.
Your right, they do look a lot like the monarch, I've probably past by quite a few and never even knew the difference. TFS.

Hi John,
I like the frontal point of view you managed to get on this V. butterfly.
Proper focus on the head and front part of the insect.
The soft background helps to isolate the subject, besides making a nice colour contrast.
Well done and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Ciao Jonh,
bellissima macro, ottimi POV frontale e composizione con la bella posa e l'ottimo OOF BG (peccato per il bit del taglio dell'ala), molto buona la definizione, molto belòli i colori.
TFS. Maurizio

Hello John,
Good, sharp shot with lovely colours. The butterfly contrasts so well with the deep greens .

Hello John. Even with minor clipping on the wing, this is still my favorite butterfly post. I like the perch and you have managed the sharpness pretty well throughout the full spreading wings. The perch on the tree flowers are well framed and you silenced the background beautifully. Excellent work and thanks for sharing. Best regards. Jusni

Hi again John,
Another superb macro shot in an unusual POV my friend. Well composed and focused too. TFS.
Cheers,

Bayram

Hello John,
a lovely shot of this butterfly. The point of view is very interesting and exciting
The light of blurry BG play on the background is very complementary. The insect is sharp and clear. Well thought and well executed. Well taken opportunity and grabbed instantly .
Lovely snd pleasant shot

Regards,
Foozi
