Great Blue Heron

I have never really had a lot of luck capturing one of these birds.I always joked that I had many photos of their butts as they fly in the other direction, and that they must have eyes in the backs of their heads.
So I was excited to drive by this one wading in a small pond at the side of the road.
I took this shot from the driver side window of my vehicle.I was hanging out the window.
This one decided to just keep on hunting and ignored me.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Wolf,

Congratulations - no butts but a beautiful pose in a beautiful setting. There are times when it's nice to be ignored. A wonderful Heron with excellent colors and shadings and razor sharp details of the eye, face and plummage. I love the composition.

Jane

Hello Wolf,
A fine capture of a juvenile Great Blue Heron.
You got him with fine sharpness and he stands out well against the OOF but busy natural BG. Excellent composition too.
TFS this fine image,
Ivan

Hi Wolf,

Stunning shot mate of this Great Blue Heron, I can see how it gets its name, wonderful colours. The detail in the plumage is excellent; love the POV, perfect exposure, nice work, all the best,

Cheers Rick :)

Hello Wolf,

Superb capture of this heron with a very beautiful surrounding. Excellent composition, POV, DOF and sharpness. Superb detail of the feathers. Light and colours are great. This time you were very lucky.
Cheers,
Mariki

Was this done with the Nikon Sir Wolf? wow....quite the change of pace from your first "few images";-) Very nicely done...Great use of the depth of field..I have no preview in my camera of DOF NOR of final outcome until it is clicked...I am somewhat frustrated...but perhaps...I think I may have found a person on eBay who might have the LCD I need..god willing...very nice sir Wolf!
Bob

hello Wolf

i see that this superb shot is the 1st bird image of your gallery,
it is a superb shot with very fine POV, DOF and framing,
beautiful luminosity and colour tones, excellent sharpness
and details, and i love that for a 1st time (that i see or i don't
remember to see it before) the heron is shot other place than the water,

TFS

Hi Wolf :)
This is a beautiful shot of this nice bird! Everything looks good here and details are wonderful! I like those natural tones of colors, exposure and composition. I had one visiting us a few weeks ago and he even landed on the border of my pool which is pretty unusual as we live in a residential area. I also saw him on my neighbor's house roof and not later than yesterday, I saw him flying in near my house again!!! I really wonder what he is doing here as the river is quite far from my house… Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Wolf,

The blue heron is impressive, it seem to be on the lookout. The details and colors of the bird are clear and precise. The subject is well frame. The light brings out the colors which are soft. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Hello Wolf,

You have captured the image of this bird with great shrpness and in a very fine light. As you have shown so well the colors there are plenty of color tones that can be seen on bird's plumage.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hello Wolf,
Beautifull setting, beautiful bird and most diffinately beautiful image. Outstanding work Wolf, thank you for sharing.
Rick

I love the details here and especially the DOF. It's there enough so that one can tell it is in it's natural habitat. I want to reach out and pet it (but then, don't I always?)

Composition, exposure, and pose are outstanding. This deserves far more than I am allowed to give...

Kathy :-)

Hello Wolf,
splendida cattura di questo Airone, ottima la composizione in un bel contesto naturale, molto buona la definizione dei dettagli del piumaggio, bellissimi e luminosi i colori.
TFS.

Hi Mr. Wolfman

Yes, the same magic of old (chuckle). Indeed a GREAT shot of this Great Blue Heron. I just fancy the lovely sharp details and colours on the beautiful plumage of this majestic bird. Although the surroundings are actually very busy, the soft focus ensured that it does not distract at all and in fact it added to the visual enjoyment of the composition. It created a wonderful 3D effect. The exposure control was spot-on providing excellent lighting on the subject.

Well done MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. By the way (or as you perhaps already know), we will be leaving early tomorrow morning for our holiday. Of course we are going to the Kruger Park…where else? Take care and see you in 2½ weeks.

The eyes show it is intent on something, so in a lot of cases that overrides the fear of a person.
You managed a very good focus and excellent exposure.

Hi Wolf,

I love your portfolio, particularly the wolf, but I chose to critique you Blue Heron as they're a particular favorite of mine. There are a few Grey Heron shots on my website at: www.wildshot.co.uk, if you're interested. There things really are reptilian and you can almost see the link between lizard and bird. Classic shot, nice composition, nicely blended background and perfectly sharp.

Cheers,

Mike

You sure have been lucky, Wolfie! Me too, I have pictures without a head, just blurred wings or hidden beneath trees or tall grass. Even though they are big birds, they seem to fly away with skillful speed! Beuatiful picture, we see the nice colours of its feathers and I love the surrounding, rocks and mosses, with the water just beside the bird, camouflaged in its nature. Thank you!

Francine

Once again an excellent contribution...
Well photographed in its habitat. Good focus.
