A Squadron on the Wings of the Morning
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A squadron of Canada geese assume formation just as dawn breaks the sky on a late September morning. This is more of a macro view, compared to my last previous post, and taken from a different spot, perhaps a half mile away, in the same nature preserve. I saw numerous birds on the wings during the hour or so I spent that morning traversing the riverside trails and savoring the different perspectives in the rising light.
Note the spot that looks something like a line of chalk beneath the apex of the formation and just to the left, spanning a rift in the clouds. That is actually the contrail of an airplane. It was interesting to watch how closely the formation followed the same path for a time.
Only PP is cropping for size and rule of thirds and one minimal pass of sharpening. |

Hi Jim
I like the atmosphere in this shot. The subtle grey tones in the clouds catching the first rays of the morning sun are great. The trees in the corner bring a useful sense of scale to the composition. We get large flocks of this species in the UK too - it was introduced and is now a common bird.
Kind regards
Vinny

Beautiful shot Jim,
I remember when a sight such as this was as rare as hens teeth, but now their are so many geese here in Ohio they are becoming a real problem in some areas.
I love the color of the sky and the tree you composed into your shot. I noticed the small jet stream right off the bat!
Well done!!
Ron
