Again, taken in Denali. I wandered into the path of a swooping, protective bird. I think its a snowy owl. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I used my zoom on max, and a high shutter speed. In photoshop I cropped closer in, and sharpened the image. |

Nice shot of a great subject. Technically, you've probably pushed it a bit too much. Having spend the last week scanning negatives, my hunsh is that is a scan of a negative (the whote spots in the background are characteristic of dust). It this is the case you could either rescan it (takes time, but there's no guarantee the dust will be gone), or use something like the clone or smudge feature (takes time). Also, I would do one fewer sharpen -- it makes the edges look too "fake." Finally, you could run it through a noise filter such as Noiseware to remove some of the spotty film artifacts.
Nice capture, Paul! Definitely not a Snowy Owl which is much larger and whiter. This is a Northern Hawk Owl, and a real beauty! They are unusual in the owl world for their long tail, almost like a hawk's, which is how they got their name.
I checked the date on this photo (September), and your location (Alaska), and my guess is that those 'white spots' mbasil mentioned in his critique are actually snowflakes?
