Close-up portrait of the Red-tailed Hawk cared for at the Ecomuseum, where this male is called Tango. I invite you to admire a superb image of the same bird captured by Luc ( photo 1 and "http://www.treknature.com/gallery/North_America/Canada/photo6754.htm" photo 2). My wife Hélène, who is a volunteer docent at that educational wildlife park for a good 10 years now, regularly brings Tango for the Ecomuseum to groups of youth and nature lovers in the Montreal area. Tango is a very docile and gentle bird. But Hélène finds him heavy after a while when she holds him in her hand for long periods. The Ecomuseum keeps Tango because he cannot live in the wild for two reasons: 1) he has been impregnated (used to live with humans) for too long a period during his first months in life and as such he could not survive by himself in the wild; 2) he has a broken “thumb”, a defect which cannot be repaired.

Image captured at 3:06 p.m, without fill flash. The light in the eye is the reflection of the Sun just before sunset at west, in my back.

Beautiful Red. Excelent use of lighting and I'm glad you did not use a flash. The tones are superb.
Well done on this composition and details.

Mike
