Those are Painted Turtles (Chrysemis picta) sun-bathing. These turtles love to expose themselves to the sunrays. One can often see up to 20 individuals gathered on a piece of wood coming out of water. This species is the only know reptile able to whithstand frost, thanks to sugars (glucose and lactate) present in their muscles and some organs, such as the liver, the brain and the heart. The Painted Turtle can live up to 40 years.

I think you had a brilliant idea in setting up for this shot. 3 turtles i a row on the diagonal would have been brilliant. There is however a bit of too bright light on the top turtle. The details and colours are very nice. Man this would have perfect if you could get them to look at the camera. Nice one. Thanx for sharing.

Serge, this is a cute and lovely shot. You managed to capture a great moment.

I tried a little workshop. I hope you like it.
